Fields such as Ethnicity may be sparse, so filters on those columns may require larger conditioning kernels to avoid undersizing data.

Conditioning narrows the comparison population to individuals of a similar dimension like stature (aka, standing height). A Gaussian kernel is used to weight individuals in the dataset; those closer to your specified conditioning value are weighted more heavily.

Important: Do not add the conditioning variable (or its equivalents, like heightin if you've conditioned on stature) to the "Measurements" section below. This would be redundant and skew the analysis.

4. Measurements

Instructions: Search for and select fields, then click “Add Selected.”

For each field added, have another person use a medical-grade anthropometer to take at least three measurements per field. Consult the measurer's manual and follow instructions closely on where and how to make each measurement.

Enter the average into the measurement input box and the standard deviation into the uncertainty box. Participants should inhale to maximum capacity and hold their breath before measurements are taken.

As a low-cost alternative to a medical-grade anthropometer, a woodworking clamp approximately 2 feet long and 4 inches wide may be used as a makeshift caliper. Measure the span using a measuring tape.

For more realistic results on how you may be gendered by people, use as few measurements as possible and only those that affect gendering the most, such as biacromial breadth, hip breadth, and chest breadth. If your measurements look out-of-range relative to the database, you might have not followed the correct measurement instructions in the above manual.
